Island Child Charitable Trust New Zealand

About the delegates

Danielle Bergin: Founder, Trustee and tireless advocator / worker of Island Child Charitable Trust NZ which is a small grass roots organisation working with high deprivation, low income communities of Auckland. The Trust also supports Medical Doctors working in remote islands of the world. Our aim is to reduce disparities and strengthen families in need.

Dr Trelly Patunvanu: Sole rural doctor for 38,000 people on Malekula island, Vanuatu. Dr Patunvanu is Ni-Vanuatu. Working with limited resources, his hospital has only one working wheelchair. He needs assistance with medical equipment and senior elective medical students to visit and assist him. Dr Patunvanu has come to the conference in the hope that vital support network will develop and his people will benefit in the future from better resourced medical care. He wishes less unnecessary deaths for his high risk community.

Margaret Thorpe: A Rural Practice Nurse, an Emergency Nurse and also working as a Youth Health Nurse with disadvantaged youth. Based in Gisborne, New Zealand, she is a Founding Member, Director and Trustee of TroppoDoc. Margaret travels the developing world extensively on a voluntary basis assisting Dr. Derek Allen in the world’s most remote places, delivering medical disaster relief and essential medical care to the poor and needy people less fortunate than ourselves.
